Ahmed bin Amer Al Mehrazi, CEO of Nama Group, explained that despite the noticeable shift towards diversifying energy sources and focusing on enhancing reliance on renewable energy sources thanks to the government’s firm commitment and comprehensive policies, there are still many challenges facing the energy sector, including climate change, increasing demand for energy, and the need for more stable and flexible systems.

He said in his speech: There are challenges related to how the company can continue its interest in the planet and ensure its sustainability for future generations, and therefore discussing these issues together reflects the importance of cooperation in finding innovative and effective solutions.

For his part, Eng. Abdullah Al Wahaibi, Head of the Electrical and Energy Division at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, pointed out that this year’s conference is held under the title: Mechanisms for Implementing the Sultanate of Oman’s Energy Transformation Plans, and will review many important topics, including the latest developments and policies in the energy sector, the development of transmission networks, distribution systems and networks, energy efficiency and asset management, in addition to renewable and sustainable energy systems, and various energy storage technologies.

Over the course of three days, participants in the conference will review the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman in the field of energy transformation, reducing carbon emissions, and securing energy supplies, in a way that supports economic diversification paths and consolidates the position of the Sultanate of Oman in playing a major, reliable, and competitive role regionally and globally, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

The conference programme includes the presentation of many working papers and visual presentations and will witness a number of specialised discussion sessions with the participation of experts and specialists from various concerned parties, in addition to a number of workshops that examine the challenges facing the electricity and energy sector and anticipate its future developments.

The conference also includes workshops discussing the topics of network flexibility, energy storage systems, smart grid solutions, the use of hydrogen in power generation from electricity turbines, and others.
