Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman moved up sixteen places in this year’s 17th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2023 to be the 48th most peaceful out of 163 countries.
Oman is placed third in MENA and ranked 48th in the world. The region is lead by Qatar at 21, followed by Kuwait 35, Jordan 62, UAE 75 and Oman making the top three.
The index ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness and is produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP)
Iceland remains the most peaceful county in the world, a position it has held since 2008, while Denmark displaced Ireland to the number two spot.
