Private Cars Dominate as Oman Vehicle Count Nears 1.9 Million
Muscat: The total number of registered vehicles in the Sultanate of Oman reached 1,873,803 by the end of March 2026, marking an increase of 5.5 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
Data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that private vehicles accounted for the largest share at 79.2 percent, totalling 1,484,718 vehicles. Commercial vehicles followed at 14.8 percent with 276,887 vehicles, while rental vehicles represented 2.4 percent with 44,958 vehicles. The remaining share included taxis, government vehicles and others.
In terms of vehicle colours, white ranked first at 42.2 percent with 789,850 vehicles, followed by silver at 12.8 percent (240,675 vehicles) and grey at 10.5 percent (197,683 vehicles).
By engine capacity, vehicles with engines between 1500 and 3000 cc accounted for 54.4 percent of the total, amounting to 1,019,759 vehicles. This was followed by vehicles with engines between 3001 and 4500 cc at 22.1 percent (413,719 vehicles).
Vehicles weighing less than three tonnes constituted the majority at 90.7 percent, with a total of 1,699,988 vehicles.
