Strong Growth in M2M and Fiber Broadband Drives Telecom Expansion in Oman
Muscat: The total number of mobile service subscriptions in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 9.6 percent by the end of November 2025, reaching 8,009,723 subscriptions, compared to 7,307,140 during the same period in 2024, according to the latest data released by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data showed that prepaid mobile subscriptions accounted for the largest share, totaling 5,152,342 subscriptions, marking a 2.0 percent increase year-on-year. Postpaid mobile subscriptions also recorded growth of 1.8 percent, reaching 1,268,345 subscriptions.
Notably, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Internet of Things subscriptions registered a substantial rise of 57.5 percent, totaling 1,589,036 subscriptions, reflecting the rapid expansion of digital connectivity and smart applications across various sectors.
In the fixed communications segment, the total number of fixed broadband internet subscriptions reached 597,114 by the end of November 2025, an increase of 3 percent compared to the same period in 2024. Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) subscriptions recorded robust growth of 10.8 percent, reaching 354,014 subscriptions.
Meanwhile, fixed 5G subscriptions saw a marginal increase of 1 percent, while fixed 4G subscriptions declined sharply by 54.5 percent, and ADSL subscriptions decreased by 36.1 percent, reflecting the ongoing transition toward advanced broadband technologies.
The data further indicated that the total number of fixed telephone lines rose by 1 percent to reach 411,065 lines. Additionally, international internet bandwidth capacity expanded by 14.8 percent, reaching 4,102,219 Mbps by the end of November 2025.
