Muscat:  The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) announced a reduction in electricity tariffs for residential users with a single basic account during the summer period from May to August 2026.

The Authority stated that licensed companies are required to implement the tariff reductions in accordance with approved consumption segments to ensure accurate billing.

Under the approved mechanism, tariff reductions for May include 15 percent for consumption between 0–4000 kWh, 10 percent for 4001–6000 kWh, and 5 percent for consumption above 6000 kWh.

The reduction rates will increase during June, July, and August to reach 20 percent for the first segment, 15 percent for the second, and 10 percent for the highest consumption category.

APSR also directed licensed companies not to disconnect electricity services for residential subscribers during the same period, taking into account higher consumption levels in summer.

In addition, companies were instructed to provide flexible payment plans for subscribers with outstanding balances, allowing instalment-based repayment.

The Authority affirmed the importance of compliance with these measures to ensure service continuity and accurate consumption calculation.
