Oman registers over 30% increase in number of SMEs

Muscat: The total number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) registered in the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises till the end of November 2021 increased by 30.4 percent to 62,335 compared to 47,802 in the same period of 2020, according to data released by the National Center for Statistics and information (NCSI).

The Governorate of Muscat ranked first in the number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), registering 21,068 enterprises, an increase of 31.5 percent, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah with a total of 9,830 establishments, an increase of 30.4 percent, and then Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 7,604 establishments, an increase of 25.9 percent. Dhofar Governorate, which amounted to 5,318 institutions, an increase of 33.7 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

The total number of establishments in the Governorate of South Al Batinah increased by 33.1 per cent to reach 4,742 by the end of November 2021 compared to the same period in the year 2020. The number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) is 3,738, an increase of 32.2 percent.

As for Al Dhahirah Governorate, the total amounted to 3,454 establishments, an increase of 24 percent, and the number in Al Buraimi Governorate reached 1,321, an increase of 28.9 percent, while the number in Al Wusta Governorate reached 831 establishments, an increase of 33 percent, and in Musandam Governorate it reached 319 establishments by the end of November 2021, an increase of 73.4 percent.
