Muscat: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals, in cooperation with Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah), today organized a workshop on the National Facility Project for the management of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) waste.

The project forms part of national efforts to establish an integrated and safe system for managing radioactive waste الناتج عن oil and gas exploration and production activities in the Sultanate of Oman.

The workshop aimed to introduce the project and review its technical, operational and legislative frameworks. It also sought to enhance coordination among relevant entities in support of environmental safety requirements and sustainability goals in the energy sector.

The programme featured specialised presentations. The Environment Authority outlined the legislative and regulatory framework governing radioactive waste management in Oman, including safety standards, regulatory requirements and related obligations.

Be’ah presented an overview of the National Facility Project, highlighting its objectives, components and role in managing NORM waste in line with approved standards.
