16 Students to Benefit from Specialized Sailing and Life Skills Training
Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development and Oman Sail signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at empowering Omani youth through a specialized life skills training programme that draws on the principles of sailing to foster personal development, communication and teamwork.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Khamis Salim Al Jabri, CEO of Oman Sail, and Sayyida Maani Abdullah Al Busaidi, Director General of Family Development at the Ministry of Social Development.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to equipping young people with the tools needed to build a promising future. The programme will engage 16 students aged between 10 and 16, selected by the Ministry of Social Development.
To ensure focused learning and individualized attention, participants will be divided into two groups of eight students each. The curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between classroom-based knowledge and real-world application.
Each group will undergo a three-day programme structured around four key pillars: personal skills development, communication, teamwork and an introductory “Try Sailing” experience. The approach enables students to develop collaborative skills on land before applying coordination and leadership principles on the water, helping them prepare for future challenges and opportunities.
Dr. Khamis Salim Al Jabri stated that the initiative seeks to equip Omani youth with essential life skills that nurture self-confidence and creativity. By combining maritime activities with personal development workshops, he said, the programme provides a supportive environment for participants to explore their potential and broaden their horizons. He affirmed that Oman Sail is proud to contribute to shaping a resilient and capable new generation.
For her part, Sayyida Maani Abdullah Al Busaidi underscored the importance of community partnerships in advancing social development objectives. She described the agreement as a significant step toward delivering comprehensive care and empowerment to children under the Ministry’s supervision. Teaching youth effective communication and teamwork, she noted, will help them build a more independent and confident future.
Oman Sail emphasized its longstanding belief in the transformative power of the sea to instill discipline, ambition and resilience. Through this partnership, the organization will expand its outreach to new groups of young people, enabling them to discover their strengths and develop confidence that will benefit them throughout their lives.
