Muscat: Acting in cooperation with Saudi authorities, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) tracked and ambushed an international network that was smuggling large quantities of drugs and psychotropic substances by placing them into shipments crossing land and sea border checkpoints.
As many as 6 million Captagon pills were seized during the operation. The contrabands had been stored in various hideouts in preparation for their export in shipments.
The smugglers’ camouflage was smart, but smarter monitoring by the ROP’s Directorate General for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and Saudi authorities concerned botched the heist.
Legal procedures against the criminals are being finalized, the ROP said.
The ROP affirmed that, to preserve the security of the homeland and ensure its stability, it is pressing ahead with efforts to address crimes involving the use and smuggling of drugs and psychotropic substances. -ONA
