Muscat: The total production of electricity in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 0.6% till the end of May 2023 to reach 15,537.5 GW per hour compared to 15,440.1 GW per hour during the corresponding period in 2022, according to the preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
To break down the figures, the Governorates of Al Dhahirah, North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah, recorded a rise by 1% in total electricity production till the end of May 2023 to reach 9,838 GW per hour. Meanwhile, electricity production in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah surged by 327.3% to reach 35.4 GW per hour. A rise was also recorded in the following governorates: North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah by 6.6% to reach 3,494.8 GW per hour and Dhofar by 13.4% to reach 1,836.1 GW per hour.
Further, the governorate of Muscat recorded a decline in total electricity production by 82.6% to stand at 89 GW per hour. Musandam governorate registered a drop by 1.7% to reach 150.7 GW per hour and Al Wusta governorate also went down by 27.8% to reach 93.5 GW per hour.
Oman’s net production of electricity till the end of May 2023 reached 15,045.8 GW per hour. The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC).
The highest volume of net electricity production was registered in the Governorates of Al Dhahirah, South Al Batinah and North Al Batinah, which stood at 9,516.9 GW per hour.
On the other hand, total water production in the Sultanate of Oman recorded a rise by 1.6% to reach 210,931,200 million cubic metres by the end of May 2023 compared to 207,673,700 million cubic metres during the corresponding period in 2022.
Dhofar governorate’s water production recorded a rise during the same period by 4.2%, followed by Muscat governorate which recorded an increase by 2.1%. – ONA
