Muscat: The Ministry of Health has begun vaccinating the new target group of community groups with the “AstraZeneca – Oxford” vaccine against # Covid_19 within the first phase of the national campaign for immunization.

The campaign targets during this period the “elderly” category of people aged 65 years and over in all governorates of the Sultanate, regardless of whether they are “healthy” or “suffer from any chronic diseases”, provided that the vaccine is received at vaccination centers announced in the governorates.

The selection of the target group was based on several factors, including the continuous assessment of the global and local epidemiological situation in light of the presence of new mutated strains that are rapidly spreading, the study of the national serological survey and the population analysis study that was conducted in the Sultanate to determine the factors affecting the risk and deaths resulting from Covid disease in addition to the limited resources Manufacturing and supplying in required quantities within a specified time frame and recommendations issued by the European Medicines Agency and the World Health Organization.
