Oman Sustainability Week 2024 Kicks Off

Muscat: Activities of Oman Sustainability Week kicked off today at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre under the slogan “Sustainable Living in a Circular Society”. The event, which lasts several days, is attended by representatives of a large number of local and international establishments.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Taimour Asa’ad Al Said, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO).

Oman Sustainability Week is organized by Oman Exhibitions Organizing Company (CONNECT), sponsored by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and hosted by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). It is aimed at boosting domestic development efforts towards a more sustainable future.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, said that the Sultanate of Oman is implementing a number of projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing economic sustainability.

He pointed out that efforts in this direction include the diversification of sources of energy, cutting down carbon emissions and encouraging investments and strategic partnerships in areas that generate employment opportunities and added income.

For his part, Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, said that Oman Sustainability Week seeks to enable individuals, companies and communities to adopt various sustainability practices in daily life situations. He noted that sustainability plays a pivotal role in protecting the environment and enhancing the wellbeing of society.

Meanwhile, Steve Phimister, Managing Director of PDO, said that Oman Sustainability Week constitutes a platform for stakeholders to showcase their initiatives, exchange experiences and knowledge and adopt best practices, technologies and innovative solutions in the field of sustainability.

An exhibition held on the sidelines of the event saw the participation of more than 120 companies from 8 countries. It is expected to attract more than 12,000 participants.

Another major highlight of Oman Sustainability Week is the CEO Roundtable, which brings together senior government officials, sector executives and policymakers who consider ways to develop collaborative strategies aimed at achieving comprehensive national goals and promoting sustainability at economic and social levels.

This year the event lays emphasis on future green mobility. The event highlights major developments in the field of clean environmental mobility technology.

In turn, Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Company (Oman LNG) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state of Kuwait’s Alternative Energy Projects Company. The MoU deals with cooperation between the two parties on generating investment opportunities in the field of alternative energy. – ONA
