Muscat: Oman Sustainability Week and Oman Petroleum & Energy Show 2026 commenced today at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat, with broad participation from local and international companies, institutions and experts in the fields of energy, sustainability and future technologies.
The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Advisor at the Royal Court.
This year’s Oman Sustainability Week is held under the theme “Sustainability in Action: Innovation, Investment, Impact”, while the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show 2026 is organised under the slogan “Success through Cooperation: Achieving a Sustainable Energy Future”.
The events highlight the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to support energy transition, sustainability and economic diversification in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, said that the Sultanate of Oman continues implementing strategic projects and initiatives aimed at supporting clean energy transformation and balancing economic growth with environmental protection.
He noted that electricity generation from renewable energy sources accounted for around 9 percent of total electricity production during the past year, coinciding with the launch of the Manah 1 and Manah 2 solar energy projects with a combined capacity of one gigawatt.
He added that Oman launched the National Net Zero Strategy and the Regulatory Framework for Carbon Markets, in addition to completing the National Energy Transition Plan to support the development of a low-carbon economy based on innovation and sustainability.
The minister also affirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to reducing emissions in the oil and gas sector and achieving the target of zero routine flaring by 2030. He said the sector has already succeeded in reducing flaring by 50 percent.
During the opening ceremony, the “Rikan” Development Foundation for Social Responsibility in the Energy Sector was launched as a national umbrella to coordinate community initiatives and enhance developmental impact across the sector.
Mohsen bin Hamad Al Hadrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, said the initiative reflects efforts to strengthen cooperation among energy sector companies to support sustainable development and community initiatives.
The exhibition and conference programme includes dialogue sessions, technical workshops, investor forums and field visits focusing on renewable energy, green hydrogen, carbon management, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, sustainable mobility and climate resilience.
The events are expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors and feature the participation of over 500 speakers and experts from around the world.
The exhibition also witnessed the signing of two memoranda of understanding at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology pavilion in the fields of drones, logistics services and green mobility solutions.
