Oman to Host International Semiconductor Executive Summits on February 22-23

Muscat: Represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the Sultanate of Oman will host the International Semiconductor Executive Summits on 22 and 23 February 2023. The summit is due to bring together a large number of companies operating in the field from different countries of the world.

Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, the ministry’s Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology, said that the summit is part and parcel of the National Programme for Digital Economy and that it keeps pace with a drive to realize the goals of Oman Vision 2040 pertaining to the development of digital economy.

Al Shidhani added that the ministry exerts extensive efforts to make Oman attractive to investments in the communications and information technology sector. The action includes encouraging international companies specialized in semiconductors and electronic chips to establish projects in Oman, he said.

This will in turn enhance economic diversification, augment the gross domestic product and provide employment for Omanis, while at the same time localizing technology, he observed.

Semiconductors have certain electrical properties that make them basic components of computers and other electronic devices. A semiconductor is usually a solid chemical element or compound that conducts electricity under certain conditions, making it an ideal means of controlling electrical current and electrical appliances like telephones, computers, cars and planes, as well as weapons.
