Oman to Host Global Investment Conference in November

Muscat: His Excellency Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority, said that the Sultanate of Oman is on the verge of hosting an important global event next November, which is the annual meeting of sovereign wealth funds.

His Excellency explained in the opening of the tenth issue of the Authority’s quarterly newsletter (Achievement and Briefing) that holding the conference in Muscat confirms the prominent position of the Sultanate of Oman on the world map, and its pivotal role through the Authority in strengthening international relations and forming strategic partnerships, explaining that the Authority looks forward through this hosting to opening new horizons of economic integration and enhancing investments that would contribute to the development of the national economy.

In previous media statements by the Authority, this global event will be hosted by the Sultanate of Oman for the first time, and will be attended by the heads of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world, whose wealth exceeds $8 trillion, which represents 80% of the assets of sovereign wealth funds in the world. The event will be a great opportunity to build a network of relationships with these funds, and introduce them to the natural components and investment advantages enjoyed by the Sultanate, which will enhance its global presence, attract foreign capital, and open up opportunities to build long-term investment relationships that will contribute positively to economic diversification efforts and development of the national economy.

The Authority joined as an “observer member” when the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds was established in 2009, and on March 9, 2015, it obtained full membership in the Forum.
