Oman to stop issuing electrical wiring licenses to expats: APSR

Muscat: Oman to stop issuing electrical wiring licenses for expats said Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR)

In the statement said APSR : The Public Services Regulatory Authority announces to stop issuing new permits and not to renew the existing permits for the electrical wiring license for expatriates, and to make it exclusive to Omanis.

The apsr said that this step comes as a continuation of the implementation of the authority’s strategy to raise the Omanisation rate in the electricity sector, which was started through the initiative to Omanise 800 jobs for sub-contractors working with licensed companies, which was announced in March 2021, and is expected to be completed at the beginning of July.

The apsr indicated that this initiative creates job opportunities for Omani youth who are approved by the Distribution Rules Review Board and who have an electrical wiring license to work with licensed electricity distribution and supply companies.

The apsr has taken into consideration the need not to be affected by the market needs of licensed electricians in the various regions of the Sultanate, and the need for effective and permanent control over the prices of the accreditation and inspection service for electrical wiring in the market. This decision will support Nama Group’s efforts to train Omani youth through the Naqla program.

The apsr explained that this initiative comes as a step towards moving forward in implementing Oman’s 2040 vision, by developing and empowering Omani youth.
