Oman weather: CAA issues Alert number 1

Muscat: The latest weather maps and analyses of the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center Indicate that the tropical depression is located north east of Arabian sea near the coastal areas of India (Gujarat) at latitude 23 N of and Longitude of 67 E.

The wind speed around the depression’s center is estimated between 17 to 27 knots and it is likely to move north-westward towards the coastal areas of Oman Sea within coming two days with chance of dissipating near Pakistan-Iran coasts. The impacts of this weather system is still expected to affect the Sultanate of Oman gradually today and continue for next three days.

Sunday 17 July 2022:

Clouds Advection over most of the Sultanate of Oman governor ate with chances of rain showers with different intensities over South Al Sharqiya, North Al Sharqiya, and parts of Muscat and Al Wusta governorates between 10 to 40mm.

The expected impacts: 

Rainfall may lead to the flow of some ladies.

Fresh winds between 10-30 knots (20-60 km/h)

Decrease in horizontal visibility during heavy rainfall.

The sea state will be rough along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea coasts with a maximum height of 4 meters and slight to moderate along Oman Sea with a maximum height of 1-2 meters. 

Monday 18 July 2022, Tuesday 19 July 2022:

The impact of the depression will start gradually extend to governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta varying rainfall between 30-80mm. with cloud cover over Sultanate of Oman with isolated rain over parts of Muscat, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhaklia, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahran, Al Buraimi governorates between 10-30mm.

The expected impacts:

Rainfall lead to the flow of some ladies.

Fresh winds between 20-40 knots (40-80 km.h).

Decrease in horizontal visibility during thundershowers

The sea state will be rough along the coastal areas of Oman and Arabian Sea coasts with a maximum heigh of 4 meters.

Chances of Sea water extending over some parts of low coastal areas. 

Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precaution during rain and wadies and to check the visibility and sea state before sailing and follow the issues weather bulletins and reports.
