Oman weather: Heavy rain and thunderstorms early Tuesday


The Civil Aviation Authority  (CAA) issues weather alert (1) heavy thundershowers starting from early Tuesday, and advices all to take precautions, do not cross wadis and low land areas and do not sail during alert period.

In a statement CAA said: “Due to the expected heavy thundershowers over governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and Al Dhahira which may range between 30mm to 80mm (within 24 hours), which will extend gradually during the afternoon and evening over governorates of South Al Batinah, Al Dakhylia, Muscat, South Al Sharqiya and North Al Sharqiya and later at night over governorates of Al Waste and Dhofar.

The Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precautions during thundershowers rain, do not cross Wadis and avoid low land areas and do not sail during alert period. 

Expected Impacts:

Wadies flow over some areas and thundershowers are occasionally associated with fresh downdraft winds and hails.

Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers 

Sea state will be moderate to rough with maximum wave height ranging from 1.5 meters to 3.0 meters along most of the coasts.”
