Heavy rainfall with thunderstorm, hail expected over parts of Oman starting from Sunday

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Saturday issued weather Alert 1 for Heavy rainfall expected over Sultanate of Oman Chances of cloud advection and formation associated with isolated thunder rain starting from tomorrow morning, the heavy rainfall is expected tomorrow afternoon.

In a statement CAA said: “Due to the expected heavy thundershowers associated with downdraft fresh winds and hail over the governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, South Al Batinah, and Muscat from tomorrow evening till Monday.

The Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precautions during thundershower rain, and not to cross Wadis (Flash Flood) and avoid low laying areas and not to sail during alert period.

Alerts:

Heavy thundershowers with hail are expected ranging (30 – 60 mm) may cause flash floods (Wadis).

Strong downdraft active winds with speed ranging 15 – 35 knots (28 – 64 km/h).

Sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts (1.5 – 3 meters).

Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.
