Oman weather warning: heavy rain, hail and floods forecast starting March 8

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issues Weather alert (4) Heavy Rainfall Starts at Friday 3:00 pm ends at Saturday 3:00 PM

In a statement CAA said: “Due to the expected heavy thunderstorms accompanied by strong downdraft winds and hail gradually increasing on Friday evening and intensifying on Saturday, the following governorates are affected: Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhylia, Al Dhahira, North Al Shargiya, South Al Sharqgiya, and parts of Al Wusta. Rainfall amounts ranging from 30-150 mm are anticipated, leading to flash flooding and wadis.

The Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precautions during thundershower rain, and not to cross Wadis (Flash Flood) and avoid low laying areas and not to sail during alert period.


Heavy thundershowers with hail are expected ranging (30 – 150 mm) may cause flash floods (Wadis).

Strong downdraft active winds with speed ranging 15 – 50 knots (28 – 90 km/h).

Sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts (2 – 3.5 meters).

Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.
