Omani artist Moosa Omar passes away

Muscat: Acclaimed Omani artist, Moosa bin Omar Al Zadjali, passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 52 years. after a glorious career spanning more than 40 years. He is considered one of the most prominent Omani mixed-artists recognized at the local and international levels.

The artist Moosa Omar, who was born in the wilayat of Muttrah in 1971, is considered one of the most important artists who worked to highlight the identity of Omani mixed-media artists to the world. His creations combined modern features with the elements and motifs from the traditional Omani way of life.

He is a member of the International Federation of Arts affiliated with UNESCO, the Omani Society For Fine Arts Association, and the Youth Studio, and through multiple artistic participations over more than 30 years.

Moosa Omar’s artworks feature cotton textiles and burlap in a continuous pattern of dyes and paints creating the perfect medium for his ideas imbued with visual knowledge and mixed-media awareness. He won many mixed-media awards in Oman, Egypt, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, and his works are found in the art museums in various places of the world.

Moosa Omar held more than 15 solo exhibitions in the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt and Germany. His personal art exhibition ‘Songs for the Sun’ at the Stal Gallery in Muscat in August 2018 brought him much fame and acclaim.

He also represented the Sultanate of Oman at the ‘International Fine Arts Symposium’ organised in Jordan in July 2022. His works also featured at the 19th edition of the ‘Asia Art Biennale’ in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, in December 2022, which saw participation of artists from 56 countries.

Moosa Omar works are displayed in a number of joint exhibitions in the Arab Gulf states and various others in a number of European countries, the United States of America, Mexico, Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, India, Algeria, Morocco, Taiwan, Lebanon, Australia, South Korea, Egypt, Japan, Jordan, Syria, Bangladesh, and China.
