Omani Author Dr. Jokha Al Harthi participates in the MBIFL 2023 in India

Dr. Jokha bint Mohammed Al Harthi, Associate Professor at the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, participated in the fourth edition of “Mathrubhumi International Festival Of Letters” (MBIFL’23) in Trivandrum, in the Indian state of Kerala.

Dr. Jokha Al-Harthi participated in the first two sessions entitled “From the Ladies of the Moon to Naranja,” in which the journalist Sunita interviewed her about the meaning of writing in the Arab world, the challenges facing Arab women’s writing, and her new novel, which is in the process of being translated into English, “The Silk of the Gazelle.” The interviewer noted that my novels “Sayedat Al-Qamar” and “Naranga” have been translated into Malabar.

As for the second session, it was entitled “The Nobel Booker Conversation”, and the writer Abdul Razzaq Garanh, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature 2021, writer Shihan Karunatilaka, winner of the Booker Prize 2022, and Dr. Jokha Al Harthy, winner of the Booker Prize 2019, participated in it.

The dialogue was also moderated by Sabine Iqbal, the organizer of the Literary Festival, where he asked about the value of winning these major awards, how it changed the profession and life of the writer, and its impact on new generations of writers. The dialogue also revolved around the value of literature in life and its ability to change the future, and what these awards brought. Of interest in the literature of East Africa, the Indian subcontinent and the Arab world.
