Omani craftsmen Day celebrated today

Muscat: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority will celebrate tomorrow (Friday) in the Wilayat of Muttrah on the occasion of the Omani Craft Day, which falls on 3rd March every year.

The celebration is sponsored by His Excellency Sheikh Ghosn bin Hilal Al-Alawi, Chairman of the State Financial and Administrative Control Authority.

The ceremony includes a variety of paragraphs that review the efforts made by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority in developing creative craft industries, in addition to the establishment of the Omani Crafts Market Exhibition in the Bahri Street in the Wilayat of Mutrah, which includes more than 20 small and medium enterprises and crafts, and will continue until the seventh of March.

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority has implemented various events and exhibitions on the occasion of the Omani Crafts Day in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to spread awareness of the importance of craft industries, highlight craftsmen and their products, and enhance efforts to promote Omani crafts. Where the events included a wide participation of craftsmen and productive families.

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority has recently issued a regulation to support craft industries and the importance of their development and development, through which it identified the craft industries that are the subject of support (20 activities), most notably the manufacture of Omani daggers and handicraft products such as pottery, porcelain, leather, palm fronds, wood, stone, gypsum, the preparation of incense, traditional fishing tools, and others.

The authority indicated that the number of craftsmen in the Sultanate of Oman amounted to more than 23,000, explaining that it had received about 1,035 requests for craft support in 2022. On the other hand, the Home Productive Business Regulation issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion last year included 30 activities, including 16 craft activities.
