The activities of the “Omani Culinary Arts Festival”, organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, kicked off this evening at Al-Hafa Beach in the Wilayat of Salalah, coinciding with the activities of Dhofar Autumn 2024. The festival will continue until August 26.
The festival includes various and diverse activities, the most important of which are live shows performed by the most skilled Omani and Gulf chefs, in the presence of a number of cooking enthusiasts and influencers from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to a number of sections such as the little chef’s corner, folklore shows of popular music, various competitions, the farmers’ and local products’ corner, restaurants offering the most delicious authentic Omani foods, and the gifts and souvenirs corner.
The festival, which was inaugurated under the patronage of His Excellency Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, aims to promote and enhance food tourism and culinary arts, especially Omani culinary arts and Omani cuisine locally, regionally and globally through forums, festivals, events and forums specialized in the field of food tourism and culinary arts.
The festival comes within the “Omani Food Tourism and Culinary Arts” program, through which the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism seeks to introduce Omani cuisine as one of the means to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability and to create a focus for Omani culinary arts on the cultural tourism map, while activating the role of tourism in benefiting local communities and providing business opportunities for small and medium enterprises as well as job opportunities for professions related to culinary arts. The Ministry also aims through this program to document the legacy of Omani cuisine, its history and associated traditions, and then preserve it and its sustainability through development and innovation in recipes and menus to suit the evolving taste of tourists, preserve the basic ingredients that distinguish these recipes, innovate in products related to supply chains to enhance competitiveness, and benefit local communities from that, and develop entrepreneurship opportunities whether in the fields of manufacturing, services, tourism products or innovative experiences.
