MHT organizes Omani Culinary Arts Forum

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) organized the “Omani Culinary Arts Forum”; With the aim of benefiting from the Omani culinary arts and introducing Omani cuisine as one of the means to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability and creating a position for the Omani culinary arts on the cultural tourism map, while activating the role of tourism in benefiting local communities and providing business opportunities for small and medium enterprises related to the culinary arts.

The forum, which was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sayyida Mayan bint Shihab Al Said, included the launch of the book “Documenting Omani Cuisine,” which is the result of research work between the Ministry and Sultan Qaboos University, and documents various Omani cuisine. It also includes 6 chapters, dealing with the cultural heritage in the Sultanate of Oman, The research framework for the study, the documentation of 110 traditional Omani foods, the internal and external influences on the foods, traditional foods and society, and traditional foods as a component of the Omani tourism product. A number of working papers were also presented on the path of cooking enthusiasts and Omani restaurants.

Amira Bint Iqbal Al Lawati, Head of the Food and Culinary Tourism Program, said: “The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism pays attention to developing tourism patterns based on the comparative and competitive advantages of the Sultanate of Oman by working to set visions for each type and determining strategic and promotional programs to obtain the best results and achieve the desired and sustainable goals.” .
