Omani designers create first batch of advanced electronic chip for global company

Muscat: GS Microelectronics, a worldwide semiconductor and microelectronics company, marked the occasion of sending out the initial design of “Advanced Electronic Chips (Oman-1 and Oman-2)”. The chips were created by Omani designers who had completed a specialized technical training program.

The chips and designs will be sent to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) labs in Taiwan for testing and verification of their readiness for manufacturing and production.

As part of the National Program for the Digital Economy and with the support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Labor.

This step comes within the framework of the outcomes of the agreement concluded between the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Labor with the International Company for Semiconductors and Microelectronics in June 2022, with the aim of establishing the first investment project in the Sultanate of Oman to design and manufacture semiconductors and advanced electronic chips, and to train a number of Omani cadres in this field.

The ceremony was sponsored by His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in the presence of His Excellency Qais bin Muhammad Al Youssef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and a number of their Excellencies and officials in the government and private sectors.
