Omani film “Taa” wins first place and grand prize at Marrakech International Film Festival

Marrakech: The Omani short film “Taa” by director Mohammed bin Ali Al-Droushi won first place and the grand prize for best animated film, which is the highest award in the scale of awards.

This came during its participation in the Marrakech International Very Short Film Festival in Morocco in its seventh session, which was organized by the Friends of Theater and Cinema Association during the period from October 30 to November 2, 2024.

The film won first place at the conclusion of the festival and the announcement of the winners. The award was received by Ismail Al-Hadid, the production manager.

Director Mohammed Al-Droushi expressed his great happiness as it was the first Omani film to win a major award in animation films and was among the international films in competition between 300 films from different countries of the world. The film was chosen due to the quality and uniqueness of the influential human idea and its transformation into a cinematic industry as an animated film that relies on important elements including the intended message of the subject, the design, the colors used, the sound and the musical effects.

It is worth noting that the Omani director Mohammed Al-Daroushi has won most of his short film production awards and prizes during his local, regional and international participations.

The Marrakech International Short Film Festival concluded with the announcement of the results of the films that won the first places.

The number of films that passed the final evaluation stages reached 103 films from Arab, African, European and Asian countries.

All of them were referred to a specialized technical committee, which chose those films to compete for the official competition awards, which are the Grand Prize, the Best Director Award, the Best Screenplay Award and the Best Cinematography Award.
