Oman’s ‘Ismaani’ Initiative Wins 2026 Ethics Award Supports 80 Million Stutterers

Ismaani’ Initiative Wins Qatar Award for Supporting People with Stuttering

Doha:  An Omani initiative titled “Ismaani” (Hear Me), supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, has won the 2026 “Our Ethics Award” in the State of Qatar.

The award, organized by Qatar Foundation, aims to promote the role of values and ethics in building cohesive societies.

The “Ismaani” initiative focuses on empowering individuals with stuttering and raising community awareness about the condition, which affects around 1 percent of the global population—equivalent to nearly 80 million people worldwide.

Launched in early 2020 with only three members, the initiative has grown to include more than 200 participants of different age groups, making it the first initiative of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman.

Members of the initiative have undergone specialized training abroad in stuttering management and obtained “Training of Trainers” (TOT) certification, enabling them to deliver structured, high-quality programmes.

The initiative has received recognition on several occasions, including acknowledgment by the Oman Human Rights Commission in 2022. In 2024, it qualified for the Beirut Volunteer Award as the sole Omani initiative among the top 10 initiatives in the Arab world. It also won the Youth Excellence Award in 2025.

The initiative underscores a message of inclusion, affirming that individuals with stuttering have voices that are heard and valued in society.
