Omani veterinarian wins Almarai Award for Best Veterinarian in GCC for 2023

Muscat: Omani veterinarian Shihab bin Abdul Majeed Al Balushi wins Almarai Veterinary Medicine Award at its 15th session for the year 2023. This annual award honors veterinarians in Saudi Arabia and the GCC countries under the supervision and organization of the Saudi Veterinary Medical Association and the sponsorship of Almarai Company.

This came during an announcement by the Secretariat of  “Almarai Award for Veterinary Medicine”, on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Dr. Shehab Al Balushi is considered the first veterinarian to receive the award twice in two different branches of the award, as he received the Outstanding Student Award in the specialty of veterinary medicine in 2017.

Dr. Shehab currently holds the position of Assistant Director for Technical Support at Al-Bashaer Meat Company. He also previously served as Head of the Preventive and Curative Services Department at the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources.

He also represented the Sultanate of Oman in many international organizations related to animal health, such as the contact point for veterinary preparations at the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and the contact point for one of the biosecurity programs related to animal health at the FAO. In addition to representing the Sultanate of Oman in the Gulf Health Council and participating in the preparation of many Gulf laws and regulations related to animal health and protection.

In addition, Dr. Shihab Al-Balushi has many research papers published in various scientific and peer-reviewed journals in various fields of veterinary medicine, and he is also a referee in some international journals.

It is worth noting that the “Almarai Veterinarian Award” was launched in 2010 under the sponsorship of Almarai Company and in partnership with King Faisal University in Al-Ahsa, and its awards are granted annually under the supervision of the Saudi Veterinary Medical Association. To honor veterinarians in Saudi Arabia and in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
