Omani women essential partners in development

Muscat: Omani women have received great attention since the blessed renaissance, which led to their advancement in every field and helped them becomes equal partners in the progress of the Sultanate of Oman.

The achievements of Omani women and the rights they have gained come within the framework of the policies established by the blessed renaissance and favourable government policies, they have made remarkable contributions in the scientific fields and got international recognition as scientists and innovators.

“Omani Women’s Day”, which falls on 17th October, reflects their achievements in various fields, and gives them incentive to exert more efforts for the national building process. During the ear of renewed renaissance of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Omani women are receiving continues  support through the enactment of new laws and regulations.

Emphasizing the involvement of Omani women in development, as long as they are willing to be partners in creating an inspiring reality for a bright and sustainable future at various levels, and they play their role in various disciplines to achieve their goals and objectives.

Her Honourable lady, Spouse of the His Majesty the Sultan, has praised the efforts made by Omani women in the Sultanate of Oman to build, develop and support their family and their active contributions to the betterment of social, national lives.

Today, Omani woman through her right of education are contributing in the decision-making process ad carrying out duty towards their family, and society.

Women are occupying top positions in many sectors and are also important ministers in the Council of Ministers, and they had a major role in the development of society, they are present in both Shura and State Councils. Many are appointed in the diplomatic corps and carry the message peace  of the Sultanate of Oman in different parts of the world.

According to the National Center for Statistics and Information for the year 2021, educated Omani women at the “General Diploma” level reached 313,745, the “Higher Education Diploma” 53,232, and the “Bachelor’s and above” level 152,422.

The number of Omani women working in the government sector was 89,164 and in the private, family and domestic sectors were 126,737, while the number of Omani women’s associations reached 64, and the number of female members reached 8,483, while the number of Omani female beneficiaries of social security reached 86,633, which is equivalent to 67 % of the total beneficiaries.

Omani women are considered an icon of success in various fields, translating this into their ability to contribute to building the present and future of Oman, crowned with constant support. Omani women play an active role in building Oman along with the efforts that push the wheel of development forward, and contribute to the advancement of Oman in all fields, until it has become a pioneer scientifically and practically.

Omani poet Aisha Al Saifi won the award for “The Prince of Poets” in its tenth season, and she becoming the first woman to get this honour in the field of the most famous program in the field of poetry at the Arab level.

Omani innovator, Sumaiya Said Sulaiman AlSiyanbi, was crowned first prize in the “Stars of Science” program, one of the most famous Reality TV programs organized by the “Qatar Foundation”. She was not only the first Omani, but also the first Arab woman to win the title. She was awarded for her scientific innovation in the field “Bioanalysis of Microplastics by a new method using nanotechnology”.

Omani poet Badriya Al Badri won first place in the category of eloquent poetry for her title “A Lamp of Laurel” at the Katara Prize for the poet of the Messenger – in its fifth edition under the title “Beautifying Poetry with the Good of Human Beings”, to be the first poet to win the title in the history of the prize.

Omani women are occupying leading positions in many fields at various levels, they have supervised many research, scientific and innovative projects. which reflect their efforts in building Oman,  and its achievements in all fields have prepared ways to enhance the process of scientific development and the development movement, represented in the advancement of itself and its society.

In the medical field, Dr. Maha Bint Zakaria Al Riyami, Assistant Professor at the Department of Biochemistry, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, has received the award of “L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science” in recognition of her scientific research in the field of diabetes.

Dr. Amira Saeed Al-Kharousi, Associate Professor, at the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, was selected among the distinguished young scientists of the World Academy of Sciences “TWAS 2022-2027”.

Dr. Maha Mubarak Al-Khadouriya, associate professor at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, won the award for the best scientific paper presented through oral presentation, at the American Association of Endocrinology Societies in the Middle East and North Africa 2022. – ONA
