Muscat: Omani citizens abroad who are taking part in elections of municipal councils third term, starting voting via the smart phones application “Intakhib”. The election process, which started at 8:00 am, will continue until 7:00pm today.
The Ministry of Interior has allocated the 18th of December for voters outside the Sultanate of Oman, and the 25th of the same month for voters in the Sultanate of Oman.
The total number of candidates for membership of municipal councils for the third term is 696 candidates, including 27 women, while the number of voters is 731,767, including 347,965 women.
The municipal council elections are being held for the first time through the “Intakhib” application launched by the Ministry of the Interior, and it is considered a quantum leap in keeping with technical developments in the world to facilitate the electoral process.
