Muscat: The Consumer Protection Department in Al Dakhiliya Governorate managed to reach an amicable settlement between a consumer and one of the auto agencies in the governorate, as part of its efforts to restore and preserve consumer rights.

The history of the settlement is that the Consumer Protection Department in Al Dakhiliya Governorate had received a complaint from a consumer regarding his purchase of a new vehicle from one of the car agencies in the governorate. Yet, the automobile broke down on the first day of use, causing the purchaser to return to the agency that assessed the vehicle and said it was in good condition with no faults.

However, the vehicle stopped several times throughout the warranty period, causing the complaint to request the agency again to recover the paid amount OMR 13,600 or to replace the vehicle with a new one. The agency did not respond to his claim, leading the complainant to file his complaint with the administration, which took the required action against it. A settlement was made between the two sides, and the contract was ended on the condition that the agency refund OMR 13,600 to the consumer.

CPA calls on suppliers to abide by the laws in force in the field of consumer protection and fulfill the requirements and obligations imposed on them, as this preserves the rights of consumers.
