Oman’s Desert Adventures Festival in Al Sharqiya Sands kicks off

Bidiyah: The activities of the Desert Adventures Festival in Al Sharqiyah Sands 2023 began in the Wilayat of Bidiyah in Al Sharqiyah Sands, which is organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of North Al Sharqiyah and a number of authorities in the public and private sectors in the governorate, and will continue until the 3rd February.

The festival, whose opening ceremony was sponsored by His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Governor of North Sharqiyah, aims to activate winter tourism in the North Sharqiyah Governorate in general and Bidiyah in particular, and to create a community movement to visit the Sharqiyah sands and learn about adventure tourism, in addition to increasing tourism movement in the governorate and attracting lovers and lovers of tourism. Desert adventures to the Sharqiyah sands, in addition to promoting the heritage, natural and tourism potentials, strengthening the Sultanate of Oman’s position on the tourism map, and creating added value for the local community by supporting small and medium enterprises.

Mohammed bin Saif Al Riyami, Chairman of the Media Committee of the festival, said in the opening speech: The Desert Adventures Festival in Al Sharqiyah Sands comes within the series of festivals recently announced by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in a number of governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, pointing out that the 83 specific events for the festival are diverse. It was chosen to take the tourist character and practice adventures in the golden sands of Sharqia.

His Excellency the Governor of North Al Sharqiyah announced the launch of the festival’s activities, including the opening of the Adventure Tourism and Camping Tools Exhibition, the Small and Medium Enterprises Exhibition, and the Our Sustainable Environmental Heritage Exhibition organized by the Environment Authority, in addition to presenting the Omani arts sung with the participation of the Omani Arts Ensemble in the Wilayat of Bidiyah.

It is worth noting that the “Desert Adventures Festival in Al Sharqiya Sands” includes the establishment of the Oman International Motor Championship, the activities of Omani arts groups singing with the participation of a number of Omani arts groups in the governorate’s wilayats, performances by military music groups and other various events.
