AL BURAIMI: The Environment Authority launched the Environment Council in Al Buraimi Governorate in cooperation with Al Buraimi Governorate, on Wednesday.

By launching the Environment Council, the Authority aims to set up awareness teams at the public and the private colleges and universities.

The Environment Council experience will be generalized in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to increase awareness among the local communities and universities of the importance of environment protection and natural resources conservation and combating pollution. The council is distinguished by the utilization of environmentally-friendly materials designed by the students.

Nasser bin Hamood al Yaqoubi, Director of Directorate of Environment in Al Buraimi Governorate, said that the Environment Council aims to establish a link between the community and environmentally active students who will contribute to raising environmental awareness and interest in environmental issues. The idea is inspired by Oman Vision 2040 which entails environmental awareness associated with sustainable production and consumption.

Ahlam bin Rashid al Miqbaliyah, supervisor of the Environment Council, affirmed that the council will be available to everybody to sit down and discuss various environmental issues concerning the governorate. She added that the Environment Council will host environment experts, specialists and stakeholders as well as youth and community members and engage them in various environmental activities — ONA
