EA signs cooperation programme with Global Green Growth Institute

Muscat: The Environment Authority (EA) has signed a cooperation programme with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in the field of nature-based solutions, land reclamation and access to green finance in the Sultanate of Oman.

This five-year cooperation aims to enhance joint efforts in the field of environmental sustainability and addressing the challenges of climate change.

The programme was signed by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, and on behalf of the Institute, Mohamedou Tounkara. The programme stipulates that the two sides exchange information, legislation, plans, expertise and best practices in the areas of adaptation to climate change and mitigation of its effects, and the promotion and promotion of smart climate technologies and technologies that enhance resource efficiency.

The programme seeks to enhance livelihoods and resilience of human and natural ecosystems, promote sustainable pastoralism through nature-based solutions, biodiversity and land restoration, create green jobs and promote green entrepreneurship, and provide pre- and post-accreditation support to direct access entities to the Green Climate Fund and its implementing partners.

The program aims to develop and implement projects that seek to adapt to climate change, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, exchange expertise and knowledge in the field of smart climate technologies and those that contribute to increasing the efficiency of resource use, and facilitate sustainable projects to obtain the necessary funding by exploring innovative financing opportunities, mechanisms and sources, in addition to focusing on supporting sustainable livelihoods for local communities, protecting sensitive ecosystems, and rehabilitating degraded lands.

It is worth noting that the Global Green Growth Institute is an intergovernmental, treaty-based international organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
