Oman’s Energy Ministry signs concession agreement for Potash Ore Exploration, Mining

Muscat: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals today signed a concession agreement in the mining sector for exploration and mining of potash ore in concession area No. 53-A in the swamp area of Umm Assameem.

The agreement was signed by Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and Nasser Al Araimi, Chairman of Sinbad Mining Resources Company.

By designating concession areas in the mining sector, the Ministry seeks to achieve a number of goals, namely overcoming difficulties pertaining to the reception of requests, establishing an integrated database for geological, geophysical and exploratory surveys in all areas of Oman and providing regular and opportunities for exploration and mining in Oman as well as protecting the sites of mineral ores from urban expansion.

The goals also include shifting the ministry’s focus, efforts and resources on minerals of high economic value (metallic minerals), attracting international companies specialized in exploration and mining, empowering the establishment of mining industries and generating employment opportunities.
