Oman’s Fish production grows by 16.3%

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s fish production increased at the end of November 2021 by 16.3% to reach 821,374 tons, compared to 706,087 tons in the same period in 2020.

Statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI), showed that the total value of fish production amounted to OMR 380, 831.

Artisanal fishing accounts the majority of Oman’s fish production, according to statistics, recorded a growth of 6.16%, reaching 781,317 tons, compared to 670,107 tons in the same period in 2020.

The statistics indicated that the coastal fishing sector recorded a growth of 9.11%, and commercial fishing grew by 3.11% by the end of November 2021.

Small pelagic fish constituted the largest proportion of the total production of the artisanal fishing sector until the end of November 2021, as their quantity reached 455,983 tons, registering a growth of 4.16% compared to the same period in 2020.

Al Wusta Governorate topped the Sultanate’s governorates in artisanal fishing; Its production reached 324,215 tons, recording a growth of 2.26% by the end of November 2021 compared to the same period in 2020.

South Al Sharqiah governorate with a production amount of 256,317 tons, a growth of 25% at the end of November 2021, followed by Dhofar Governorate in third place with a quantity of 74,317 tons, registering a slight growth of 2.2%.

The production of fish by artisanal fishing in the governorates of Muscat and the governorates of North and South Al Batinah decreased, as the production of Muscat decreased by 6.7%, and the governorates of North and South Al Batinah by 3.16% during this period.
