Oman’s Fisheries celebrates ‘World Fisheries Day’

Sohar: The Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate of North Al Batinah today organized activities to celebrate World Fisheries Day, entitled “Together for Sustainable Fish Wealth”.

Eng. Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Hadabi, Director General of the Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Batinah Governorate, said: “The World Fisheries Day is a global event that is an opportunity to highlight the importance of fish wealth in the countries of the world and raise awareness among fishermen and all members of society of the need to preserve water wealth.

Al-Hadabi pointed out that the Governorate of North Al-Batinah is one of the governorates overlooking the coastal strip of the Sultanate of Oman and possesses several elements that support the fish sector, as the number of fishermen in the governorate reaches 13,177 until the end of October 2022, in addition to 9 fish markets with 467 employees. / of Omanis and /208/ marketing outlets, in addition to /6/ fishing ports, which are considered one of the basic structures of the fish sector and a number of investment projects are based on them that serve the workers in the sector and port visitors.

The celebration included holding a number of meetings and giving educational lectures to a number of fishermen and workers in the fish sector in the governorate’s states, in addition to raising awareness of the importance of preserving living aquatic wealth and cleaning fish ponds.
