Oman’s foreign direct investment increased by 5.6 percent in 2021

Muscat: The volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Oman increased by 5.6 percent to reach OMR 16.43 billion by the end of the third quarter of 2021, compared to the same period of the year 2020, in which the volume of foreign investment amounted to OMR 15.55 billion, according to the statistics of the National Center for Statistics and Information.

The United Kingdom was at the forefront of foreign direct investment in the Sultanate of Oman at the end of the third quarter of 2021, with total investments amounting to 8 billion and 331 million and 600,000 riyals, followed by the United States of America with a value of two billion and 18 million riyals, while the United Arab Emirates ranked The third, with a value of one billion and 187 million and 200 thousand riyals, followed by the State of Kuwait with a value of 914 million and 500 thousand riyals, and China with a value of 773 million and 400 thousand riyals, and the Kingdom of Bahrain with a value of 389 million and 800 thousand riyals, and the State of Qatar with a value of 383 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals.

The oil and gas extraction sector accounted for the largest proportion of foreign direct investments at a value of 11 billion, 133 million and 800,000 Omani riyals during the year 2021 , achieving a growth of 10.5 percent compared to the same period in 2020, and the manufacturing sector came in second place in the volume of investments with a value of one billion and 512 One million Omani riyals, a decrease of 4.5 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

The financial intermediation sector came in third place with a value of one billion and 455 million and 500 thousand riyals, and the real estate activities sector with a value of one billion and 161 million and 500 thousand riyals, and other sectors with a value of one billion and 166 million riyals, in which the volume of foreign direct investment decreased by 13.3 percent compared to the same period 2020.
