More than RO 110.3 million the Sultanate of Oman’s imports of vegetables and fruits by the end of May 2024.
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s total imports of vegetables and fruits by the end of May 2024 amounted to OMR110,340,269, with a total weight of about 320,568,989 kilograms, compared to OMR98,892,896, with a total weight of 306,580,936 kilograms by the end of May 2023, an increase in value of 11.6 percent, according to data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
The value of vegetable imports by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 42 million, 653 thousand, and 213 Omani riyals for a total weight of about 146 million, 148 thousand, and 866 kilograms, compared to 29 million, 437 thousand, and 524 Omani riyals for a total weight of 139 million, 661 thousand, and 151 kilograms by the end of May 2023, an increase in value of 44.9 percent.
The value of fruit imports by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 67 million, 687 thousand and 56 Omani riyals for a total weight of about 174 million, 420 thousand and 123 kilograms, compared to 69 million, 455 thousand and 372 Omani riyals for a total weight of 166 million, 919 thousand and 785 kilograms by the end of May 2023, a decrease in value of 2.5 percent.
The value of vegetable imports from the United Arab Emirates by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 10 million, 973 thousand and 46 Omani riyals, from Yemen, 10 million, 860 thousand and 202 Omani riyals, and from India, 4 million, 659 thousand and 93 Omani riyals.
The value of fruit imports from the United Arab Emirates by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 18 million, 844 thousand, and 717 Omani riyals, from Egypt, 9 million, 491 thousand, and 909 Omani riyals, and from India, 9 million, 275 thousand, and 432 Omani riyals.
On the other hand, statistics show that the total value of the Sultanate of Oman’s exports of vegetables and fruits until the end of May 2024 recorded about 13 million, 592 thousand and 96 Omani riyals for a total weight of 59 million, 567 thousand and 656 kilograms, compared to 11 million, 923 thousand and 406 Omani riyals for a total weight of 49 million, 416 thousand and 432 kilograms by the end of May 2023.
The value of vegetable exports by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 8 million, 941 thousand and 204 Omani riyals for a total weight of about 37 million, 812 thousand and 693 kilograms, compared to 8 million, 603 thousand and 617 Omani riyals for a total weight of 40 million, 553 thousand and 162 kilograms by the end of May 2023, an increase in value of 3.9 percent.
The value of fruit exports by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 4 million, 650 thousand, and 892 Omani riyals for a total weight of about 21 million, 754 thousand, and 963 kilograms, compared to 3 million, 319 thousand, and 789 Omani riyals for a total weight of 8 million, 863 thousand, and 270 kilograms by the end of May 2023, with an increase in value of 40.1 percent.
The value of vegetable exports to the United Arab Emirates by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 3 million, 961 thousand, and 228 Omani riyals, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 1 million, 659 thousand, and 630 Omani riyals, and to Kuwait, 816 thousand, 574 Omani riyals.
The value of fruit exports to the State of Qatar by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 1,473,319 Omani riyals, to the United Arab Emirates 1,094,851 Omani riyals, and to Bahrain 783,700 Omani riyals.
Statistics show that the total value of re-exports from the Sultanate of Oman of vegetables and fruits recorded until the end of May 2024 about 2 million, 441 thousand, and 278 Omani riyals for a total weight of 6 million, 789 thousand, and 391 kilograms, compared to 2 million, 133 thousand, and 262 Omani riyals for a total weight of 7 million, 829 thousand, and 318 kilograms by the end of May 2023.
The value of re-exports of vegetables by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 460,369 Omani riyals for a total weight of about 1,612,761 kilograms, compared to 569,842 Omani riyals for a total weight of 2,962,667 kilograms by the end of May 2023, a decrease in value of 19.2 percent. The value of fruit re-exports by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 1,980,909 Omani riyals for a total weight of about 5,176,630 kilograms, compared to 1,563,420 Omani riyals for a total weight of 4,866,651 kilograms by the end of May 2023, an increase in value of 26.7 percent.
The value of re-exporting vegetables to Somalia by the end of May 2024 amounted to 76,135 Omani riyals, and to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 69,506 Omani riyals. The value of re-exports of fruits to the United Arab Emirates by the end of May 2024 amounted to about 396,659 Omani riyals, to Kuwait 297,301 Omani riyals, and to Vietnam 267,124 Omani riyals.
It is worth noting that the total number of establishments and facilities operating in the retail activity in specialized stores for fresh fruits, vegetables and dates amounted to about 654 establishments until May 2024.
