Oman’s inflation rate rises by 0.4 percent in September 2024

Muscat: The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 0.4% in September 2024 compared to the same month in 2023 for the base year 2018, according to data from the Consumer Price Index issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The data indicated an increase in the prices of miscellaneous goods and services by 4.33%, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 2.81%, health by 2.44%, recreation and culture by 0.71%, restaurants and hotels by 0.4%, clothing and footwear by 0.28%, and tobacco by 0.09%.

The prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group, as well as the Communication group remained stable. On the other hand, the prices declined for transport by 3.41%, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.59% and education by 0.41%.

In the food and non-alcoholic beverages group, the prices of vegetables increased by 8.15%, fruit by 6.15%, milk, cheese and eggs by 5.5%, meat by 2.4%, sugar, jam, honey, and confectionary by 2.25%, other food products by 1.84%, oils and fats by 1.63%, non-alcoholic beverages by 0.98%, bread and cereals by 0.51%, whereas fish and seafood prices decreased by 3.42%.

At the governorates level, Musandam Governorate recorded the highest inflation rate at the end of September 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, as the index rose by 1.5%.

An increase in inflation was registered in several governorates as follows: 1.33% in Al Wusta, 1.22% in South Al Sharqiyah, 0.96% in North Al Sharqiyah, 0.79% in Dhofar, 0.56% in Al Buraymi, 0.55% in Al Dakhiliyah, 0.39% in North Al Batinah, 0.24% in Al Dhahirh, and by 0.19% in Muscat. Meanwhile, inflation decreased by 0.12% in South Al Batinah.
