Oman’s inflation rate stands at 1.98 pct in December 2022

Muscat: The inflation rate of the Consumers Price Index (CPI) in the Sultanate of Oman stood at 1.98% during December 2022, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The data indicated a rise in the prices of main groups in December 2022 compared to the corresponding period in 2021, such as food and non-alcoholic beverages by 5.4%, restaurants and hotels by 4.05%, health by 3.82%, furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 2.27%, miscellaneous goods and services by 1.87%, clothing and footwear by 1.09%, recreation and culture by 1.05%, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.63%, transport by 0.41% and education by 0.05%. Meanwhile, inflation declined in the group of communications by 0.06%, and stabilized in the tobacco group.

Prices also went up for oils and fats by 19.49%, meats by 8.42%, milk, cheese and eggs by 7.65%, fruits by 6.51%, non-alcoholic beverages by 5.43%, bread and cereals by 5.10%, other foodstuff by 2.75% and sugar, jam, honey and sweets by 2.33%.

Prices dropped in the main groups of fish and seafood by 5.80% and vegetables by 1.03%.

As far as governorates are concerned, Al Buraimi recorded the highest inflation rate by 3.3%, followed by A’Dakhiliyah (2.5%), North Al Batinah (2.3%), A’Dhahirah (2%), and Muscat (1.8%). The lowest inflations rate was recorded in North A’Sharqiyah, South A’Sharqiyah and Dohfar, which stood at 1.7% for each governorate. – ONA
