Oman’s issues standard specification for technical requirements of electric vehicles

His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed bin Musa Al-Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion issued Ministerial Resolution No. 45/2023 deeming a Gulf standard an Omani binding standard.

The first article of the decision stipulates that the Gulf Standard Specification (GSO) No. (GSO2698:2022) related to technical requirements for electric vehicles is a binding Omani standard specification.

The second article of the decision stipulates the imposition of an administrative fine not exceeding (1,000) thousand Omani riyals on anyone who violates the provisions of this decision, and the fine is doubled in the event of a repeat violation.

Article Three provides for the publication of this decision in the Official Gazette, and it shall come into effect after the expiration of (3) three months from the date of its publication.

The ministry stated in a tweet that the provisions of the standard apply to all electric vehicles whose speed exceeds 25 km / h, and that the regulation includes the technical requirements for the manufacture of electric vehicles and the conditions for testing the vehicle.

The Ministry indicated that the objectives of the standard specification for electric cars are as follows:

1. Determine the technical requirements for electric vehicles.
2. Safety of the driver and passengers from accidents and electric shocks.
3. The guarantee of driving a high performance vehicle.
4. Lower cost than conventional combustion vehicles.
5. Reducing car exhaust.
6. Reducing global warming.
7. Reducing noise pollution.
8. The responsibility of the manufacturer.
