Muscat: The Green Mountain in the Sultanate of Oman has always been admired and fascination for many tourists, and the focus of attention of magazines and websites specialized in tourism and travel affairs.

A new report published by Vermont News & Media and Reformer has ranked Al Jabal Al Akhdar among the five most beautiful green mountains in the world, noting that it is one of the tallest mountains in the Middle East, with a height of 3000 meters, and is very popular year-round.

With its mighty peaks, deep canyons, and stunning vistas for miles around, Jabal Akhdar is often called the “Grand Canyon of the Middle East.”

It also helps that the mountain is on average 15°C cooler than the plains below, which can get rater hot in the summer months.

The report said, located about 100 miles from the capital, Muscat, Jabal Akhdar is part of the Al Hajar Mountains range, that forms the spine of northern Oman and extends into the UAE, while the mountain is frequented by hikers, campers and tourists from within the country and the rest of the world.

He report also said, perched on top of the mountain are several hotels and resorts that suit the budget and needs of most visitors. The mountains are also home to a famous rose called the Jabal Akhdar rose that exclusively grows there, and are harvested every year by hotels to make fragrant rosewater, and by perfumers who distill its essence into exotic scents that sell for top dollar around the world.

The list also included Green Mountain in Australia, the Green Mountain Trail in South Africa, the Green Mountain Reserve in Quebec, Canada, and the Green Mountain Park on Ascension Island in South America, officially a Britain overseas Territory.
