Oman’s ministry inaugurates First Dual Combustion Truck

The Ministry, in cooperation with an Omani company specialized in research and development, inaugurated the first truck that works with the combined combustion technology of diesel and hydrogen, which contributes to reducing part of carbon dioxide emissions compared to a conventional diesel truck, on the sidelines of the activities of Oman Sustainability Week.

The co-combustion of diesel and hydrogen is a modern technology in the region that allows the safe co-combustion of hydrogen and diesel in traditional heavy trucks by combining dual combustion between them and thus reduces carbon dioxide emissions from heavy trucks by up to 40%, in addition to that the technology can be modified to any A diesel engine at a low cost compared to buying a truck running on hydrogen, and the truck can continue to operate in the event that hydrogen is not available at hydrogen filling stations, as building a few major hydrogen filling stations will be sufficient to enable the co-combustion of hydrogen on a large number of the fleet and thus Allows immediate use of hydrogen and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in the next phase until trucks powered by clean energy are fully enabled.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology attaches great importance to the possibility of using biofuels and hydrogen as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel for transportation, in line with the Sultanate of Oman’s plan to achieve a balance between sustainable development and limiting the repercussions of climate change, building a knowledge economy, and benefiting from clean technology to achieve sustainable development. And creating a diverse mix of energy sources.
