Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals sets up National Hydrogen Alliance to develop clean hydrogen

Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) on Thursday signed an agreement to establish the National Hydrogen Alliance.

In the statement Oman news agency said: “An agreement was signed between the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)’s Training and Development Centre to establish a National Hydrogen Alliance (NHA) to set up a firm position for the Sultanate on the map of developing clean hydrogen production and use. This alliance consists of 13 major institutions from the public and private sectors, including government agencies, oil and gas operators, and educational and research establishments and  ports which will also collaborate to facilitate the production, refining and transportation of hydrogen, as well as its domestic use and export.

The National Hydrogen Alliance (NHA will focus on polices, techniques and expertise in producing clean hydrogen across the supply chain, thereby securing national energy reserves, enhancing carbon elimination efforts and eventually successful transition into “green economy”

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals will undertake the leadership of the National Hydrogen Alliance, with support from the PDO, Authority for Regulation of Public Services, Energy Development Oman, OQ group, Oman LNG, BP Oman, Shell Oman, Total Energy Oman, the Sultan Qaboos University, German University , Port of Sohar and port of Duqm.

His Excellency Eng. Salem bin Nasser Al-Aufi, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, says that the goal of establishing the National Hydrogen Alliance is to create a leading national and international alliance between industry, the government and public authorities to develop clean hydrogen production techniques reflecting the goals of Oman 2040 vision. -ONA
