The first phase of evaluating smart production factories project begins
Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, in cooperation with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), has begun evaluating the first phase of the Smart Production Factories Project, which aims to enable the Omani industry to adopt advanced technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution techniques.
This stage included the field audit evaluation process of the factories participating in the project through specific criteria in the evaluation matrix based on the Smart Industry Readiness Index. The evaluation matrix is based on three main pillars detailed into 16 dimensions. Each dimension provides an accurate picture of the level of readiness of factories to adopt the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and then makes recommendations for the available opportunities for development.
The evaluation process, in its current phase, aims to start enabling 5 factories to adopt the applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the digital transformation of these factories, out of 20 factories targeted as a first package during the current year and within a vision that aims to transform 30 percent of factories into smart factories by 2026.
A specialized technical cadre from the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), who is a licensed and accredited assessor from the International Center for Industrial Transformation, in cooperation with a working team that includes a number of specialists from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, visits the targeted factories and meets with the factory teams to assess the current status of the factories through specific criteria in the assessment matrix based on the Smart Industry Readiness Index.
It is worth noting that the initiative to enable Omani factories with the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and automation comes in implementation of the directives of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion to work on the outputs of the Industrial Strategy 2040 in order to enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector.
It is an enabling initiative for the manufacturing sector that aims to shift towards the applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution by transforming into smart production factories to keep pace with modern technology, create new production lines, reduce costs, raise the efficiency of factories, and create quality jobs that are compatible with educational outcomes.
