MoCIIP issues ministerial decision to adopt binding Omani standard specifications

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion issued Ministerial Resolution No. 120/2024 considering the Gulf standard specifications for vehicles, motorcycles and their tires as binding Omani standard specifications.

This decision comes with the aim of updating the decisions to oblige specifications for vehicles, motorcycles and their tires, to ensure compatibility with the latest applicable standards, which contain the latest safety standards to protect consumers from risks, specific quality standards to ensure their performance and sustainability, and specific environmental protection standards to reduce their impact on the environment.

The specifications also require new vehicles to have a fuel consumption data label sticker, which is a sticker placed on all new cars sold and which helps the consumer compare the fuel consumption efficiency of different cars and choose a car that meets his needs in terms of fuel consumption efficiency.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment Promotion stressed that the importance of standard specifications lies in advancing local production to global levels and increasing its competitiveness, and achieving a common understanding between the parties concerned with protecting the health and safety of the consumer and the environment, reducing waste and raising the economics of industry, and supporting the national industry and developing exports with the aim of raising the level of quality.

Standard specifications also help provide a frame of reference and a common language between manufacturers and traders, facilitate trade exchange and technology transfer, and enable them to develop their products and services, and this gives them the ability to increasingly compete in many markets around the world.
