Oman’s MOH issues warning to stop using an Infant Formula

Muscat: The Ministry of Health would like to note that it has received a notification from the producing company regarding reports about the possibility of contamination of the infant formula mentioned below with bacteria in the country of origin, the United States of America. The two products are

1, Similiac EleCare (0-12 months)

2, Similac EleCare Jr (1 year and older)

Products details

Commercial name : Similac EleCare and EleCare jr formula.

These formulas are special powder formula for infants and young children based on amino acids and sold in special pharmacies. They are prescribed only with medical prescription and used under medical supervision.

Both products are used in the nutritional control of cases of protein malabsorption, malabsorption, and sever food allergies, short bowel syndrome, acidic gastrointestinal disorders, gastrointestinal disorder, or GI Tract impairment where as amino acid-based formula is indicated.

These two products are available in the Sultanate of Oman with two batch number (at the bottom of the can):

  • 303084 z200 used for infants from 0-12 months for oral and tube feeding.
  • 34772 z201 for 1 year and older.

Country of origin : USA

Therefore, the ministry of health calls on all users of this formula to stop using it as a precaution

The ministry would also like to point out that other products in the local markets are not included in this alert.
