Oman’s MoH to launch expanded package for newborn screening and Individuals Planning to Marry

Muscat: A meeting was held at the Ministry of Health today to follow up on preparations for launching an expanded package to screen newborns for metabolic diseases, and to screen those about to get married for some hereditary blood diseases and infectious diseases.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Saeed bin Hareb Al Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs.

His Excellency stressed during the meeting that this expansion of services for the targeted groups, which will be launched in January 2025, comes to help members of society and those about to get married build a healthy and stable family and have healthy children; which will contribute in the future to building a society with a solid foundation because the family is the basic building block of any society.

The meeting reviewed the expanded package of comprehensive preventive tests targeting those about to get married, to ensure that both parties are infected with or carry some hereditary and infectious blood diseases, in order to provide options and alternatives to the couple, enabling them to make the right decision that suits them.
